Two avid runners, one who liked to organize events and one who liked to make jewelry, were sitting together after a very busy day at a marathon trade show in October of 2006.  The two runners who were also friends, started talking about how much fun it would be to put on a special run for special ladies.  There would be jewelry, signature drinks, and gifts for all who would complete a run….let’s make it a half marathon run!  All money that would come in as an entry fee would go back to the special participants as fun stuff.  As the drinks flowed (did I mention there were drinks involved?) the idea grew and grew and when the bar closed (did I say we were at a bar?) the “Because I Can” run was born.

On September 23^rd, 2007 forty-eight amazing ladies stood at the start line of the “Because I Can” run at the Seymour Demonstration Forest and all finished the 21km distance.  Well, everyone had such a great time that the two avid runners who were also friends decided to put on another run with jewelry and signature drinks and gifts for all.  The e-mail went out to all past participants and on September 23^rd, 2012….five years to the day of the “Because I Can” run…..forty nine amazing ladies stood at the start line in the Seymour Demonstration Forest ready to run the “Believe I Can” half marathon.  All 49 women finished!

On September 7^th, 2019, twenty one ladies will stand at the start line of the “Woods Talk” run (named in celebration of the 50^th anniversary of Woodstock because of course, we need a theme to our special runs)….. to once again challenge themselves and test their limits all with the support of good friends.  It is true that even at the outset, these runs had the making of more than just runs.  They provided the opportunity for women to come together, challenge themselves and celebrate their success together with laughter, high fives and the odd wooo hooo!  Long live our sense of fun, creative spirit and good health.  Today is a gift and we believe…..because….just a second….I’m getting to the point….!!!!  I am yours, you are mine we are what we are….!!!
